Glasgow City Council Welcome to Shawlands Academy

Our pupils address the STUC Congress

On Tuesday 20th April ,a group of third year pupils and Pinar Aksu of the sixth year attended the STUC Annual Congress to take part in the 'Unions into Schools' fringe meeting on 'Scotland a Future Free from Racism'. All pupils from the school delegation participated in the fringe event and Pinar also addressed the Congress.

Shawlands Academy were one of four schools in Scotland invited to take part in the fringe event.

The Shawlands Academy pupils' contributions were most impressive and have received very positive feedback from all who attended the fringe event. Delegates to Congress were moved by Pinar's account of her personal experiences at Dungavel and Yarl's Wood Detention Centres.

Many thanks to photographer Louis Flood for allowing us to publish his images of this event.
